Welcome to Sacred Heart

Hello Sacred Heart School Community! Welcome back to all of our staff, students and parents – thank you for entrusting us with your children. To our new families, I hope your first few days have been joyous and your children have found Sacred Heart School to be an environment in which they feel at home.

Sacred Heart School prides itself in providing a preschool to grade 9, family orientated atmosphere, a safe and caring environment in which our students can let their light shine!!  As a school we try hard to get to know not only our students, but their families as well – it has been said that Sacred Heart School is one big happy family.

As with big families, a key to ensuring a successful school year is communication – in this instance communication between home and school. Positive and proactive communication between all parties (parent, student and teacher) helps us create an environment that supports learning. Our staff work hard to keep in constant contact with our families and you may already have received a phone call, letter or email from your child’s homeroom teacher.

I would also encourage you to take the initiative to get to know your school and your child’s teachers. Some suggestions for staying informed and involved include:

  • Make a point of meeting your child’s teacher and introducing yourself and outlining your expectations for your child. Teachers really appreciate placing faces to names and knowing that parents are active in the learning process.
  • Utilize the student agenda daily – this is an excellent tool to maintain an ongoing dialogue for small items. The agenda, however, is not effective if you have larger concerns – it is best to call and meet with the teacher to discuss issues in person.
  • Attend school council meetings, become a classroom representative or keep in contact with your school council executive. Your school council is an advisory body whose primary role is to enhance the educational environment of our school.
  • Provide an email address to your child’s teachers if this your preferable means of communication. Also inquire if your child’s teacher has a regularly updated website with homework, projects, etc. posted.
  • Ask for an e-copy of the school newsletter and/or visit our school and divisional websites for info
  • Come support one of our volunteer days throughout the year – from service project days to field trips and fun days.
  • Drop by to cheer on the school sports teams, theatre performances or band!!

It is important to us that our families know that this is their school – that families are our first and foremost concern and that we are here to support them in the raising of their children. Once again I thank you on behalf of our school for entrusting us with your most precious gifts – your children. We will endeavor to help you find and foster their personal gifts and talents and let their lights shine for all to see!!

Sincerely,

Kevin Prediger

Principal
